 Less comfortable than the hard shields

I can see the appeal of a breastshield that “comfortably massages,” but I find these painful whereas the standard hard plastic ones aren’t. It took me a while to realize the problem and switch from these (which came with the pump) over to the older hard shields.
This soft material sticks to the skin, sort of like peeling your sweaty legs off a pleather couch, which is especially painful early on when the nipple is tender. And it bends out of shape over several weeks. So if you are getting pumping supplies before starting to pump, rather than because of unpleasant experiences with the hard shields, consider–do you mind resting your soft arm against a hard desk? Would you rather your desk were comfortably, stickily massaging?

 Don’t see (feel?) much difference

Pumping (and nursing) is and always has been painful for me. I used the 24mm with my first son, but got the “large” (27mm) of the personal fit or whatever they’re called after my second son was born. I decided to try the Softfit just to see and I see no difference in feeling. Possibly they’re too small for me. Also, I’ve only tried them once so far. I wish they made them in larger sizes. I do like that it’s got a shorter funnel tube part thingy. That’s pretty cool. Otherwise…eh. Oh, and not being able to microwave sterilize them kind of sucks. But they function.

I pump 4 times a day, five days a week and I’ve used both these and the hard plastic shields. I would agree that they can stick to the skin, but I find that my nipples hurt more after using the hard plastic shields than these. The odd thing is that I have received two types of these softfit shields after ordering-sometimes they are clear and sometimes they have a frosted look-the frosted ones hold up better and are more comfortable. From what I can tell the frosted ones are the latest version but that is just a guess-there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to what I have received after ordering these. I order new shields about every three months (on my 10th month now) and I don’t mind investing in the products. I have three sets so that I don’t need to wash them while I’m at work-although it takes a while after work to get everything clean! I could see that if you went only with the hard plastic shields you may not need to order them as much-these ones do tend to warp a little after use. That said, I am sort of a stickler for cleanliness and I feel like I can’t quite get the hard plastic shields as clean after washing as I can with these. They do come in several sizes-I have been fine with the standard 24mm. Pumping in general is not the most pleasant experience so it is really all about finding what is comfortable for you-I recommend trying both options to figure out which you like better.
